Why this exists

The person who runs this site wants to visit every county in the United States, and wanted a map that kept track and looked good enough to print.

Most "states I've visited" tools stop at states. Counties are harder: there are 3,142 of them, many are small, and nobody wants to scroll a list of three thousand checkboxes on a phone. So county maps here get zoom, search and a list view, and they came first.

The shapes come from the same kind of files behind Wikipedia's blank maps, where every state or county is its own named outline you can colour. Here they come straight from US Census Bureau boundaries (through the us-atlas package) and Natural Earth (through world-atlas), and are drawn in your browser.

The site is free. There are no payments, no ads and no mailing list. An account exists so your maps are saved and stay yours.
